Satellite Downlink Service

TerraNet offers you a satellite based downlink service that works in conjunction with a regular dialup or dedicated connection. Upstream traffic is sent via dialup or dedicated connection, while downstream traffic is received through the satellite channel.

Example: to illustrate the functioning of Business Broadband
When you type www.cnn.com and hit enter, only few bytes are sent upstream to cnn.com, on the other hand, the CNN page full of data, images, text, and media, is sent downstream to your computer, thus the bulk of traffic is the downstream traffic. In this case the downstream traffic is the traffic sent from cnn.com to your computer. This leads to an interesting fact: in order to have high-speed Internet access, you only need to have a large bandwidth downstream link, the upstream traffic does not need to be upgraded.

Burstability
The most attractive feature of the business broadband solution is a notion known as burstability. When you obtain business broadband service, the whole satellite bandwidth is being received by your receiver, but you can only use the bandwidth that you are subscribed to.

TerraNet�s burstability technology allows your broadband connection to burst up to a higher speed than your committed subscription. This additional bursting capacity is extra capacity that you can use for minimal additional charge. For instance you can have a subscription of 128K burstable to 512K, so your connection can go up to 512K while you are only paying for 128K.
